South Park Rapids is located at South Park in Story City, IA.  The rapids is created by a low head dam that has been modified to make it safer to boaters and other outdoor sports.  This is the 1st dam modification of its kind in Iowa.  They modified the dam to make rapids behind the low head dam.  This is so you will be washed out rather than be sucked into the circulating water those type of dams create.  The new spot makes a very nice wave at higher levels and at lower levels there is still some fun to be had.  There is a portage trail at this location if you would rather take out and carry around the rapids.  This is for canoers and kayakers who are paddling the river and not experience with rapids.
